Community Supported Agriculture

The CSA is your way to become a member of the farm. Membership benefits include:

  • Receiving a weekly share of the harvest from July through October
  • Connecting with where your food comes from, who grows it, and how it’s grown
  • Attending on-farm events

Pickups are on Thursdays between 3:30pm and 6:30pm at 122 Glenlake Ave, with an extension to 9pm.

Deliveries are on Thursdays between 7:00pm and 9:00pm to the Junction, High Park North, Roncesvalles, Bloor-West, and Runnymede neighbourhoods. Contact me to find out if you are in my delivery zone.

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Much more than a food box or food delivery service, CSA farming is a worldwide movement seeking to enhance the relationship between farmers and the people they feed. In CSA programs, members support the farmer by paying in advance for a share of the harvest. In this way, members provide the farmer with a degree of security in an inherently risky business with the understanding that food is actually the end result of all the valuable and hard work the farmer has been doing for months or more. In response to the generosity and confidence shown by the member, the farmer provides members with the best harvest possible and the pleasure of knowing who grows their food as well as how and where it is grown.

If you join my CSA program you will see me at every harvest pickup in my backyard. Or, if you are having your veggies delivered, I will see you at your front door every week when I drop off your share. I love talking about the farm, the food, how it is grown, and what to do with all those veggies! I send out newsletters, as well as post on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter so that you’re able to keep up with what’s happening in the fields. Better yet, there are on-farm events every year so that you can see exactly where your food is coming from, meet other members, and get to know the farm. The dates for 2020 are TBD.

I grow over 30 different vegetables, fruits, and herbs. On any given week there will be 7 to 9 different offerings for you. Everything is picked fresh and in-season, which means you’ll be eating vegetables when they are at their best and most flavourful. For more information about the farm, click Here.

During pickup, tables will be set out in the backyard (like a farmers’ market stall) with the harvest for you to collect. There will be a “trade-table” where you can leave behind an item and pick up something you want more of instead. If you are having your share delivered then I can customize your share by trading on your behalf.

Memberships

The first pickup and delivery is planned for July 2, and the last is 15 weeks later, just before Thanksgiving, on Oct 8th. If you are picking up your share, memberships cost $420, which is $28 per week. If you are having your share delivered, then there is a $60 delivery fee ($4 per delivery), so the total membership cost is $480. The value of produce you receive is based on farmers’ market and healthfood store prices. Each week you will receive approximately $26 worth of produce; the remaining $2 value will go towards a weekly donation to Feed it Forward. With 40 members (the number of shares I am offering in 2019), we will be able to donate $80 worth of amazing veggies each week to support food security in the GTA! I ask for an initial payment of $200 at the time of registration to secure your spot. The balance is due on August 1st. (Let me know if you require an alternative payment plan.)

If you are unable to pick up your share on any given week, you are encouraged to send a friend, neighbour, or family member to come by and get it for you. Regular backyard pickup time ends at 6:30pm on Thursdays, but if nobody has picked up your share by then I will pack up your share for you to collect before 9:00pm. If your share has still not been picked up by 9pm then it will be added to the weekly donation to Feed it Forward. If you are having your share delivered, you can have someone collect your share from your porch after delivery or let me know that you would like to donate your share instead.

If all of this sounds great, please Click Here to register. I am offering only 40 shares in 2020, and they are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

If you have any questions at all about the CSA, the farm, or myself, please contact me.

Even if you are not joining the CSA, you are welcome to subscribe to my monthly email newsletter or follow the farm on FacebookInstagram or Twitter.

I’m excited to grow your food!
